TRUMPY YACHTS TODAY Last year a New England yacht builder, Jim Ewing, and a former marine magazine publisher, Jock West, approached Johan Trumpy with the idea of once again building Trumpy Yachts. Convinced that Ewing and West would be faithful to the original aesthetic and carry on the classical elegance synonymous with the Trumpy brand, Johan agreed to join forces. And so in February 2009, the new company Trumpy Yachts was formed, and subsequently entered into a contractual relationship with Su Marine to be their exclusive builder. Su, located in Tuzla, Turkey, has launched cold-molded custom power and sail yachts from 6 to 42 meters - a perfect fit for the intended Trumpy size range. Su Marine’s state-of-the-art cold-molded construction reinforces the classic wood core of the vessel with layers of epoxy, a process developed with the advent of epoxies about 20 years ago. It enables them to retain the beauty, flexibility and natural insulation of wood hull construction while protecting the vessel from the associated negatives caused by exposure to moisture. Su Marine’s yacht construction is the modern equivalent of classic Trumpy Yachts, based on traditional techniques but with the advantage of modern technology and sophisticated chemical processes. Johan Trumpy also feels very strongly that Su Marine shares the Trumpy family ethic and philosophy. “There’s no reason not to use the best materials, the best mechanics, the best of everything you can find because it saves you and the customer money in the long run,” he says, adding, “It would be short-sighted to do it any other way.” Trumpy Yachts are now available again ranging in size from 20-ft. tenders to the 150-ft. classic motor yacht. Tenders are available in three styles, the Tender, the Gentleman’s Racer, and the Capri. The New Trumpy 104 Motor Yacht, the Trumpy 67 Cruiser and the 63 Trumpy House-Yacht are beautifully appointed yachts designed to enchant those that seek a vessel that is timeless without compromise to technology. |
